A contractor with 40 reviews and four new ones this month will usually outrank one with 300 reviews and nothing since last year. Velocity is the signal. Here is how to build it into every job without gating or incentives.

Ask at the moment of relief, make it one tap, automate one follow-up text, respond to every review, and never gate, buy, or incentivize. Two to four new Google reviews per month, indefinitely, compounds ranking and conversion more reliably than occasional campaigns.
Google does not publish a “review velocity” score, but the pattern is consistent across local markets: recent, specific reviews signal an active business. Stale high counts signal the opposite. AI assistants also pull heavily from recent review language when describing who does good work in a city.
Do not gate. Do not incentivize. Do not write them yourself. Do not buy them. All of those create policy and legal exposure and destroy the one channel where independent third-party proof actually helps you.
